Dialogue without dead weight
You write conversations that reveal more in three lines than a page of description does. Every line does double duty: character and conflict.
Openings and endings that do their job
You start your story at the latest possible moment. You end at the point of greatest impact, not one sentence later.
Revising until there’s nothing left to cut
You judge every sentence by its function. Whatever adds nothing to your story, you cut. What’s left is there because it has to be.
